Entrepreneurial Blog – Week 8: Embracing Challenges and Persistence

This week’s study on overcoming challenges really hit home for me as I continue to build my photography business. One major takeaway was the importance of persistence and creative problem-solving in entrepreneurship. David Carrington’s story in Action Hero stood out, especially his point about how the best ideas often aren’t the first ones that come to mind but usually the third or beyond. This reminded me that initial attempts, whether in sales or marketing, might not work perfectly—and that’s okay. The key is to keep trying, think outside the box, and learn from mistakes.

I also connected deeply with Elder Jeffrey R. Holland’s message in Good Things to Come. His story about the family struggling with a broken-down car on a long journey was a powerful metaphor for entrepreneurship. It reminded me that setbacks are part of the process and that success often requires steady, patient effort, even when things feel difficult or discouraging. Trusting that better days lie ahead and continuing to move forward—step by step—is essential. It encouraged me to keep faith in my journey and to embrace the challenges rather than fear them.

From Eric Ries’s explanation of the “Five Whys” method, I learned a practical way to identify root causes of problems instead of just treating symptoms. This approach emphasizes digging deeper to find underlying human or system issues that contribute to setbacks, which is something I plan to apply in my business. Instead of just blaming poor sales results on external factors, I want to analyze what processes, training, or communication might need improvement.

Looking ahead, I’m excited to continue developing my skills and refining my business strategy. I’m eager to apply the concept of “thinking backwards” and experimenting with different approaches until I find what works best. I’m also looking forward to leaning on my support network—family and friends—as I navigate these challenges. Overall, this week reinforced that entrepreneurship is a journey of constant learning, patience, and growth, and I feel more motivated than ever to keep moving forward.
